Toward the end of the
Viking Age, from about 1000 to 1066, the
Christian Church became more of an influence on the Vikings and they became less warlike. Even Leif Ericson, the first European to set foot on the North American Continent, was an emissary of the church, converting his
mother (his father staunchly remained a pagan) and others around him in Greenland.
